History of Nurul Ihsan




In the early 1970s, Nurul Ihsan was formed by the elderly committee members. The group originated in 1948, which was base at Kampung Tanjung Kling, Singapore. The group was lead by the late Mr Gambak Bin Awang, Mr Osman Bin Abdullah, Mr Mansor Bin Md. Zain and Mr Ali Bin Ahmad. At that time, the group was known as Hadrah Kampung Tanjung Kling.In 1950, Mr Hj Muhamad Bin Saleh was appointed as Khalifah (leader) at the age of 12. He managed the group till they shifted to Kampung Teban of West Coast Road, Singapore in 1969.




Changes from Hadrah to Kompang




In 1961, Mr Hj Muhamad Bin Saleh took up silat lesson from Seni Silat ESHA, which was instructed by the late Master Kang Jasman. Mr Kalam Hamidi came up with an idea to form kompang to accompany the silat in performances, thus, they decided to form a kompang group by the name of Kumpulan Kompang ESHA.The committee had appointed Mr Ahmad Bin Ibrahim from Kampung Tanjung Adang, Johor to guide the group. Paluan (beat) Palembang and Berteh are the main concept of performance that this group would play in any occasion. From there, Mr Muhamad Bin Saleh brought over the concept to his own group, Nurul Ihsan, Singapore.




Launch of Nurul Ihsan




The official name Nurul Ihsan was launched in 1975 by the founder Mr Hj Muhamad Bin Saleh and his assistances Mr Hj Abdol Aziz Bin Samad and Mr Hj Rajab Bin Samad. By this time, they had shifted to Taman Jurong, Singapore. Till today, they are still enthusiastic about the group. They act as advisor to the current members as well as giving them the morale support.Nurul Ihsan took part in many occasions such as weddings, welcoming of VIPs, involved in film production, competitions, overseas outing, charities and National events. The objective is to make the members feel proud and thankful of their talents and hard work.Since it was formed, more than 200 members had joined the group. Some of them decided to call it a day but they do joined in when there are functions and gatherings. Currently, Nurul Ihsan has 90 active members.




Affiliate groups




Nurul Ihsan had form sub-groups such as Tunas Harapan and Nur Hidayah. These groups were formed in 1989 and 1994 respectively. They did well in competitions and other events under guidance of Mr Yusri Bin Hj Muhamad, instructor of Nurul Ihsan. Tunas Harapan are for the younger generation of boys while Nur Hidayah are mainly for the girls and ladies. Nurul Ihsan also had 3 more affiliate groups such as Jannatul Naim, Sri Kencana and Lancang Kuning that were run by their own committee members.
